Private Label
Rights
Private Label Rights (PLR) products are
basically products that can be altered or modified in some way
by the buyer or acquirer of the product, and can be extremely
profitable both to the creator and the buyer of the
product.
They differ from resale rights products in
that with these products you only have the rights to sell
the product in it's original form, whereas with PLR products
you can add to or modify the content, and even put your name
to it as the author or creator in some cases. Therefore by
acquiring these products and customizing them yourself, you
can instantly create your own product, without having to
spend money on hiring a ghostwriter if you are writing an
ebook, or a software developer if you want to sell your own
software.
There are two main ways you can profit from
private label rights products:
- Create your own PLR products and
sell the rights to other marketers.
This can be an extremely easy way to make a
lot of cash in a very short space of time if you have a top
quality product, and is ideally suited to those people who
are good product creators, but not necessarily good
marketers. Because you can charge a lot more than the
suggested retail price for the private label rights to a
product, you can make a lot of money from these products.
Many product creators don't want to worry about selling the
product themselves, setting up an affiliate program, dealing
with customer service etc, so instead simply create a
product, sell a specified number of PLR licences at a
premium price until they've sold out, and then move on to
their next product. A lot of clever marketers also make this
process even simpler by hiring a ghostwriter or software
developer to create their product for them.
- Buy the rights to PLR products,
customize them to suit your needs, and market them
yourself.
Again as I've already mentioned, this can be
a great way of creating your own product for a minimal
price, and instantly inheriting the respect and reaping the
financial rewards that comes from being a product author or
creator.
It's this second point that I want to focus on for the
remainder of this section, because I want to illustrate the
numerous different ways you can benefit from buying or
acquiring private label rights products.
Before I do that though, I just want to
point out that you should always read the licence agreement
that comes with the PLR product very closely, and find out
exactly what you can and cannot do to a product to ensure
you fully comply with the author's terms and conditions.
This is very important. Not all products come with the same
rights so you should never assume you have certain rights,
and should always ask the original author if you are unsure
of any rights issues.
Okay with that in mind here's a list of ways
you can benefit from private label rights, subject to the
author's permission of course:
- Market and sell the product in it's
original form.
- Customize the product, add your own
content to make it as good as possible, add your
affiliate links to create backend commissions where
appropriate, and put your name on it as the original author
so you can claim it as your own.
- Change the content, sales page, ebook
cover etc, to create a completely new product (which no-one
else is selling) so you can set up an affiliate program and
generate sales from the marketing efforts of other
people.
- Break up the content of the private label
product and use it to create a series of articles which you
can then submit to article directories and ezines to bring
traffic to your website. It's important to note that to get
your articles accepted by all the major article directories,
you should alter the content so it looks like it's your own
unique work.
- Break up the content and use it as content
for your website, again changing it into your own words so
the search engines will see it as being unique content.
- Modify and improve upon the content, and
add value to it by publishing it in a different format. For
example, take a PLR ebook and create an audio course, a DVD
course, or a home study package, which would command a much
higher price than a simple ebook.
- Break up the content and use it to create
and constantly update your own blog, which you could
monetize by displaying ads or promoting affiliate products.
Search engines love sites that add fresh content on a
regular basis.
- Create free viral ebooks or reports using
the content from the private label rights product, which
could include your own affiliate links and of course that
crucial link back to your main website which captures the
reader's name and email address for future profits.
As you can see, there are just so many ways you can profit from
private label rights. So if you are just starting out online
then buying private label rights products and modifying them if
necessary, can be a highly effective way of creating profitable
income streams and list-building opportunities.
If I was just starting out online today, I
think my main focus would be on acquiring private label
rights products and using them to create my own unique
products, both to market online, and to use as free viral
ebooks to build my list.
