Shopping Cart

If you are selling several products on your website, then you will need a shopping cart. A shopping cart is a piece of software that is basically a site's ordering and checkout system. It calculates any shipping costs, any applicable taxes, and acts as a shopping basket with the option to add and remove items, before the transaction gets passed to the merchant account or payment processor who accepts or declines the transaction.

A lot of shopping cart software are now fully integrated with merchant accounts or payment processors, and come as one package. They allow customers to add products to a basket, and also have the capacity to accept or decline credit card transactions.

Paypal is a good example. They provide free shopping basket capabilities so customers can add multiple products, if applicable, to their basket, as well as integrating it with their payment system which is a good one because it accepts credit card payments. Therefore if you use an autoresponder to send every buyer a confirmation email or download link, then you can fully automate the buying process. If you are selling information products, then Clickbank are also highly recommended, being relatively simple to set-up and fully automated.

If you are selling hundreds of products on your site, and want a complete ecommerce store then you will obviously want a more advanced shopping cart system. This can be extremely complicated to set up, and certainly a lot more expensive than your standard pay processor and shopping cart package.
